Abstract: In Political Liberalism, Rawls says that all modern societies show continuing differences about basic matters of value and the ultimate meaning of life. Liberal states are to exhibit due respect towards decent non-liberal societies by viewing them as authentic sources of the law of peoples. Rawls recognizes that very low levels of well-being can make the achievement of a stable and politically just state impossible.
