Abstract: The issue of analysis provides an ideal focus for investigating the relationships between what came to be seen in the twentieth century as the two main movements of Western philosophy ('analytic philosophy' and 'continental philosophy') and for assessing just what the divide was supposed to be. Beaney offers a framework for this investigation and considers the relationships between certain key figures in the early analytic and phenomenological traditions.
